blog post 5

At this point I am 5 pages into my paper and it is going okay so far. I am definitely focused on the importance of identity in every character and how the past and present affects them. Overall, I feel like I need to get more historical with my paper as I have used quotes and similar settings which add to my point, but doesn’t make it legitimate. The paper flows very nicely as I have added pictures and bios of Shelley and Mel Brooks. Researching the movie adaptation as a serious work is difficult as it doesn’t compare to Mary Shelly’s classic novel. Each source brings something different and finding how they intertwine with my essay has been a challenge.

I have some solid quotes that are imbedded in the essay and help to support identity. My biggest concern right now is that I will run out of examples of how to compare Frankenstein to Young Frankenstein. The essay will fall short as it has built up momentum up until now. So far I have stuck to an intro with my thesis, then a explanation of identity with Shelley’s work and then the explanation of identity with Mel Brooks. I still appreciate the success of my paper thus far. I feel as if I can balance the flow of the paper I may use more examples from the texts, and will support my quotes. But with the use of imagery and solid analysis I am very hopeful of this paper.

Identity is found in many other texts similar to Frankenstein as I mention the identity of the monster (ironically with no name) and how Victor is is the only one to actually live to see the monster. I state that this is similar to Hamlets father in Hamlet that is similar to the Kings ghost. And how this alters Hamlet’s identity. As well, JSTOR has supplied many scholarly articles that have supplied logical evidence and info. For example, in one article the author states how it through the creation of the monster Victor (Frankenstein) and Fredrick (Young Frankenstein) are the creatures of their own sub identities much as father.

In conclusion, I am feeling confident about the paper and with proper evidence and a solid ending I know it will be a success.
